Tech Savvy Ganesha

There is the funniest statue in Mamallapuram of Ganesha (a Hindu God depicted by an elephant-he is not an actual elephant, he just has an elephant head) typing on an Apple laptop. We don’t understand it, but I for one smile every time I see it—it’s SO random. When our internet was down, I had to use the WIFI at the church to do my work. One of the volunteers snapped this picture of me working—which we decided reminds us of the Ganesha typing on the Apple computer.

It has kind of become an inside joke so I’ve been meaning to take a pic of the statue, but I seem to forget every single time we go to Mamallapuram. As per usual, I forgot again a couple of weeks ago (but I remembered the last time we went, hence the picture above), and I was saying something to my roomie Emily about it. She had a stupid grin on her face but I just forgot about it. Then a few days ago, Em gave me a tiny mini version of the computer using Ganesha for my “desk” which is really just my bed. Haha! I don’t know how I feel about being compared to a male with an elephant head that has six hands—I love elephants and all, but yeah. I’m choosing to focus on what he does-such as brings good luck, uses his big ears to listen to his people, and is a clearer of obstacles. And for the best quality, he really likes eating sweets.
