Mr. Raja, the PE teacher got married last week. He called
the school and said he wanted to have a 10 day vacation/honeymoon instead of
the 5 day vacation/honeymoon the school was planning on. Congratulations man-I
can’t really judge him for that—however there were some other teachers that
were also out sick or had scheduled time off leaving us PE teacher less. So we,
as coordinators, were asked to teach PE for the week. We split the days up, and
made sure we had two of us there (because some of the kids are so rambunctious)
and set out to teach PE. I was pretty excited about it and had a lot of fun
overall. The lowest points was when I was playing soccer with the boys and went
to kick a goal, but ended up nailing a kid right in the face instead. The look
on his face killed me a little. All star PE teacher right here folks. There were
some standards who were absolutely HORRIBLE—like I had to go get the principal
to help out with one because we had exhausted all other options—but overall
playing PE teacher was a lot of fun. For whatever reason my PE outfit caused
some laughter among the other volunteers-but I thought it was perfectly normal.
Stretchy pant, running shoes, sunglasses, and tunic to be culturally
appropriate. The only thing I was missing was a whistle. I tried to find one
but either Mr. Raja hid it really well or took it on his honeymoon-so needless
to say my voice got a bit of a work out as well. We kept it simple by running a
lap or two, doing our stretches and then just playing games. As usual, my
favorite standard to teach was the UKG—the kindergarten. I absolutely adore
those kids. They are so freaking cute and so fun to work with. It doesn’t hurt
that they have super entertaining little personalities too. I always hated PE
growing up, but as of today I discovered that I really enjoy teaching it. Go
figure.
